Account and Free Trial

Introduction

You create a Staatic account at app.staatic.com. Every new account starts with a 14-day free trial. You do not enter payment details to start it, and you are not charged automatically when it ends. To keep your sites online after the trial, you choose a plan.

Creating an account

  1. Go to app.staatic.com and click Register.
  2. Enter your name, email address and a password of at least 8 characters. Agree to the terms of use and privacy policy.
  3. Click Register.

We send you an email titled “Confirm your email address for Staatic”. The link in it is valid for 60 minutes. If it expires, the verification page lets you request another one.

Clicking the link confirms your address and signs you in. If your account has no site yet, you land on the Create site form. The form starts on Staatic Cloud unless you registered through a self-hosted link. You pick Staatic Cloud or self-hosted for each site. See Getting Started.

The free trial

The trial lasts 14 days from the moment your account is activated. It includes:

  • One Staatic Cloud site.
  • One self-hosted site.
  • Team access. See Team Access.

The Create site form shows these limits while you are on the trial, for example “Your trial includes 1 Staatic Cloud site and 1 self-hosted site.”

The onboarding checklist

While you are on the trial, the dashboard shows a checklist to account owners and administrators. It has these steps: confirm your email address, add your first site, log in to WordPress, publish your site for the first time, connect your domain (Cloud sites only) and choose a plan. Each step is marked as done automatically. See What happens after you create a Cloud site for what each step tracks.

Days left

The checklist states the date your trial ends. The Subscription page shows a “Free trial” label, the number of days left and the end date.

About three days before the trial ends, we send an email titled “Your Staatic trial ends in 3 days” to remind you to choose a plan.

Choosing a plan

  1. Go to app.staatic.com and login with your account details.
  2. Open the Subscription page.
  3. Compare the plans. The page opens on Staatic Cloud if you signed up for Cloud or already have a Cloud site; otherwise it opens on self-hosted. You can switch between the two.
  4. Click Select Plan on the plan you want and complete the checkout.

Prices on the page exclude VAT. Additional sites can be added to a plan for a price per site, which the page shows. If you need more sites or features than the plans offer, use Contact Sales on the same page or contact us.

Once you have an active subscription, the checklist step “Choose a plan” is done and the trial label is replaced by your plan.

When the trial ends

If you have not chosen a plan by the end date, the following happens. You are not charged.

  1. Publishing, forms and search are paused. New publications, form handling and site search stop working. We email you to say so.
  2. WordPress editing may be paused. For Staatic Cloud sites, we email you before WordPress editing and publishing are paused. When that happens, your published static site stays online, and no WordPress files or databases are deleted. Choosing a Staatic Cloud plan that includes hosted WordPress resumes access.
  3. Sites may be taken offline. In a separate email we announce the date on or after which your sites may be taken offline. Choose a Staatic Cloud plan before that date to keep them online. If you want an export instead, contact us before the removal of hosted WordPress begins.
  4. Hosted WordPress is removed, and later the site records. After the sites are offline, the hosted WordPress environments are removed. We send a final notice with the earliest date on which the remaining site records may be permanently deleted. Once deleted, they cannot be recovered.

At every step the emails state the dates for your account. Your Staatic account itself remains available after the sites are removed, and you can create a new site.

To keep your sites, choose a plan on the Subscription page. After the sites have been taken offline, choosing a plan alone does not guarantee recovery; contact Staatic Support as soon as you notice this. We can also provide an export on request.

Managing your account

  • Profile. Your personal login details, language and time zone, and 2-step verification are on your profile page. Changing your email address requires your password.
  • Team. Owners and administrators can invite colleagues and set their roles on the Team tab of the Account page. See Team Access.
  • Sites. To remove a site, see Deleting a Site.

Closing your account

Only an owner of the account can close it.

  1. Go to app.staatic.com and login with your account details.
  2. Open your profile and, under Close this account, click Close account. This opens the Account page.
  3. In the closing section of that page, click Close Account.
  4. Type the phrase DELETE MY ACCOUNT, enter your current password and confirm.

The button is only available when the account meets these requirements:

  • It has no active subscription. Cancel it first.
  • It has no sites. Remove them first; deleting a site follows the schedule in Deleting a Site.
  • It has no team members besides you. Remove them first.

Closing the account takes effect immediately and signs you out. Billing records may be retained where required by law.
