Deleting a Site

Introduction

When you delete a site, it goes offline within a few minutes. For 30 days, Staatic Support can restore it on request; a custom domain may need its certificate to validate again. After 30 days its hosted WordPress environment is removed, and after 60 days the site and its backups are permanently deleted. Encrypted disaster-recovery copies expire within 90 days after that.

Note: deleting a site requires site management access. See Team Access for more information about permissions.

Deleting a site

  1. Go to app.staatic.com and login with your account details.
  2. Click Account > Sites. Then click on the View Icon next to the relevant site.
  3. Click the Delete Icon in the top right corner.
  4. Read the confirmation, which states the dates below, and click Delete.

The site’s account admins and the person who deleted it receive an email confirming the deletion. It states until when the site can be restored and when it will be permanently deleted. Seven days before the restore period ends, a reminder follows.

If you might need the site’s content later, take a manual backup and download it before deleting the site. See WordPress Backups.

What happens after you delete a site

When What happens Can it be restored?
Right away The site goes offline within a few minutes. Its hosted WordPress environment is stopped, but its files and database are kept. Yes, in full, by Staatic Support.
Day 23 We email a reminder: seven days left to restore the site. Yes, in full.
After day 30 We take a final backup of the site, then remove its hosted WordPress environment (files, database and WordPress access). A restore is no longer guaranteed. Staatic Support may still be able to restore it from the final backup.
After day 60 The site and its backups are permanently deleted. No.

All dates are counted from the moment the site was deleted and end at the end of the day (UTC). The emails you receive state the exact dates for your site.

Sites that publish to your own hosting (self-hosted sites) have no hosted WordPress environment. For them, Staatic Support can restore the site within 30 days, and it is permanently deleted after 60 days.

Encrypted disaster-recovery copies of our platform are isolated and never restored to active use. They expire within 90 days after a site is permanently deleted.

Restoring a deleted site

Reply to the deletion email, or contact Staatic Support, within 30 days. We restore the site with its WordPress files and database. If the site used a custom domain, it is reconnected during the restore; its certificate may need to validate again. You can follow that on the site’s Custom domain panel.

Once we have your request, we pause the deletion schedule for the site while we handle it.

Deleting a site sooner

To have a deleted site permanently deleted before the 60 days are over, reply to the deletion email or contact Staatic Support. We do so within 10 business days and confirm it in writing.

Subsites of a WordPress network

Removing a subsite from a WordPress network is permanent and immediate. The subsite’s WordPress content and its Staatic site are deleted together, and the periods above do not apply. See WordPress Multisite.
